The Isle of Man: a political North Korea?

Categories: Other, Sixth Form, The Arts,

The Voltaire Society launched its autumn programme with a provocatively titled meeting: “The Isle of Man: a political North Korea?” Andrew Newton, leader of the Isle of Man’s newest political movement, the Green Party, set out his radical vision for a very different economic and government model. Responding to questions from the students, he addressed numerous themes, including renewable energy, the implications of the emergence of autonomous vehicles and the impact of fracking on protected environments.

Signalling a key theme of the party’s forthcoming campaign, he expressed his concerns about the lack of open and robust accountability at the heart of the Manx system and called for a clearer separation of political power.
