Student Council: January Update
Happy New Year Ballakermeen!
Well, the United States of America has a new president and the Balla Council has a brand new set of targets!
We have some money from our stall at the Christmas Fair that we hope to direct into sponsoring a child very shortly but there is some discussion taking place around this. Do we go with Action Aid or a more local charity? Sponsoring a child would be so worth it but then we will need to have regular fund raisers to keep up with the payments. It’s a difficult decision to make so if you have an opinion – why not come along and help us out?
We met once again with Mr Bennett last week who is currently assessing the school for the Investors in Children award. There were a number of impressive presentations given including an outline of the school’s allotment project, the bottle recycling initiative, our Buddies and Mentors, the school canteen campaign and the sixth form hampers. Our performing arts students also gave presentations on how our pupils have a say in the brilliant school productions that Ballakermeen is so famous for as well from those who help select our school choir performances. Mr Bennett certainly looked impressed and it’s amazing to see how much really goes on here at our school and how it’s really down to us to make it happen. The main thing is to find something that you are interested in and get involved – go on … jump in and take that first step!
Student Council meetings take place in the main library at 8:50 every other Wednesday so why not come along? If you can see something that needs to be changed in school or something that could be made better then that’s the place to be. Meetings this month are on the 1st and the 15th February – your tutor should remind you in the mornings so hopefully we’ll see you there.
Who knows? You might not be the next Donald Trump (hopefully) but you might be Chief Minister one day!
Bye for now
