Maughold House Update

Categories: Houses, Maughold,

Hello to all of my Maughold pupils.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to what looks to be another event filled year at Ballakermeen High School.

For those of you who haven’t met me yet, my name is Miss Wynne and I am a modern foreign languages teacher here at Ballakermeen.

I am also House Manager for Maughold house (the best house in the school!) and this is something which I really enjoy doing.

As part of my role as House Manager, I arrange charity events, inter-house competitions and other fun events throughout the year. As a house, we raise money for a local Manx charity and also sponsorship money for a young boy called Sahr who lives in Sierra Leone. We sponsor Sahr through a company called ActionAid.

Our chosen Manx charity last year was the Manx Blind Welfare Society and we were able to raise an incredible £1090.50 to help support them. Manx Blind Welfare have been invited in to school on Wednesday 9th October to be presented with their cheque, so watch this space for photos and comments from the volunteers.

I am incredibly fortunate to work with a brilliant team of prefects and house champions, all of whom are there to help you have the best year at Ballakermeen.

My Year 11 Prefects are: Sam, Julia, Rhys, Breeshey and Joe. They are on hand to help out day to day and can relay any issues or worries you may have to the student council. Be sure to find them if you want them to present something on your behalf. They will be wearing their blue stripey ties.

My Year 10 House Champions are: Maddie, Sophie, Keeva and Grace. These girls will undoubtedly be creating some wild and wonderful events for us to take part in this year. Keep your eye on the house board for updates!

My Year 8 House Champions are: Suvi, Alex, Lucie, Grace, Sofia, Hattie and Mair. This super star team will be arranging cake sales and other fundraising events to help raise money for Reach Isle of Man and ActionAid.

Our first House Assembly is coming up on the 11th October – this assembly will be our welcome assembly and will bring you up to speed on the Global Goals for Sustainable development. Maughold House are focusing on Goal 15 – Life on Land.

On Thursday 16th October we will be holding our first of many bake sales to raise funds for Reach IOM. Photos will be up shortly after.

Finally from me, I hope you have a wonderful year here at Ballakermeen High School. Get involved with events where you can and look out for one another.

I look forward to getting to know you all over this year.

See you soon,

Miss Wynne
