Amnesty International Group launched at Ballakermeen
Sixth Form students at Ballakermeen have launched their Amnesty International Group. The human rights organization, which has seven million members worldwide, has earned numerous awards since being founded in 1961, including the Nobel Peace Prize and the UN Prize for Human Rights.
Led by Year 12 student Ben Tarpey, the group is now considering the issues it will campaign on. Ben says, “I’m not surprised to see the level of interest in this new group as many of us are regular attendees at meetings of the Voltaire Society.”
Ben’s ambition for the Amnesty Group is “to create a more globally aware and politically active Ballakermeen.” Watch this space.
